Unable to Open Site with Sharepoint Designer 2010

Couldn't find any hits for this concerning 2010 but there were a few for 2007.
Sharepoint Designer 2010 Beta - SharePoint Server Beta Eterprise Edition - working fine one day. The next morning when as far as I know nothing had changed I could not open any sites.
Messages contained the following "Server is unable to open site "
I tried a few sites and got a few variations of the message which Unfortunately I didn't write them down as I was in too much of a rush to solve the problem :-( .
Text here is from memory - such as 'Content Type Could not be determined", Status = 'ok' and similar.

Following suggestions in WSS 3.0 Sharepoint Designer 2007 posts I recycled the app pools and all was well.

  1. I've seen this issue as well with the following versions:

    SharePoint Designer 2010 Version: 14.0.4760.1000
    SharePoint 2010 Version: 14.0.4762.1000

The message I see returned from the server is: "An error occurred while frying to fetch data from your SharePoint site. Unexpected response from the server. The content type of the response is ''. The status code is 'OK'."

I've tried recycling application pools, but with no luck.

Same error as above, but I also discovered this one:

    Microsoft SharePoint Designer
Unable to open Web site. Possible causes:
    1. The Web server may not have SharePoint Server installed.
    2. The Web server may be temporarily out of service.
    3. If you are connecting through a proxy server, the proxy settings may be incorrect.
    4. An error may have occurred in the Web server.
